A.K. Party Accepts Holding Of Early Elections On Nov. 3

ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - AK Party deputy group leader Salih Kapusuz said on Thursday that his party accepted holding of early elections on November 3.
Speaking in a news conference in the parliament, Kapusuz said that his party wants the gathering of the parliament on July 22 and holding of early elections on November 3.

AK PARTY SUPPORTS DYP'S PROPOSAL TO CALL PARLIAMENT FOR A MEETING ON JULY 22

ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) gave support on Thursday to the proposal of True Path Party (DYP) with its 53 deputies to call the parliament for an extraordinary meeting on July 22.
Ak Party Group Chairman Bulent Arinc and Deputy Chairmen Salih Kapusuz and Mehmet Ali Sahin withdrew their application that they made earlier to the parliament and they reapplied with 53 signatures to support DYP's proposal.
AK Party said in the application that the parliament should pass legal regulations related to the European Union (EU), make amendments to Political Parties and Election Laws and set the date of the early elections as November 3, 2002 during the meeting at 14.00 local time on July 22.
Kapusuz and Sahin informed the press members about the reason of the application by holding a press conference at the parliament.
Kapusuz said that Turkey entered a new period and added that no obstacle left in front of the decision that the election should be held on November 3 with this application.
Salih Kapusuz said that they withdrew the petition that they had earlier presented to the Office of Parliament Speaker about calling the parliament to an extraordinary meeting on July 22 in order to take a decision of holding elections on October 6.
They backed the motion of the True Path Party (DYP) signed by 85 deputies, Kapusuz noted. He added that thus, they reached the number required by the by-laws which was equal to 110.
Kapusuz stated that although some parties had reservations, holding early elections on November 3 was accepted in general.
Noting that they had not met with the Parliament Speaker, Kapusuz said, ''the Parliament Speaker has to call the parliament for a meeting within seven days.''
Upon a question, Kapusuz said that AK Party would extend all the support to necessary EU-related arrangements and they would support ANAP's work related with this issue if they found it positive.
Responding to another question, Kapusuz said that Recep Tayyip Erdogan was their leader and would run his candidacy for deputyship.
