WASHINGTON D.C. (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - The U.S. Congress is expected to pass next week the anti-terrorism package worth of 28.8 billion dollars including 228 million dollars of aid Turkey will get by taking over the command of ISAF in Afghanistan.
The approval of the package has been delayed due to the discussion between the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives-White House about the amount of the money to be allocated to studies to fight with terrorism following the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11, 2001.
Congress leaders said that the package has to be approved both by the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives to go into force officially, before U.S. House of Representatives recesses for summer holiday on July 26.
Dennis Hastert, a Republican party deputy and the U.S. House of Representatives Speaker said that they wanted to adopt the bill before the holiday. U.S. Senate will go on holiday after one week from U.S. House of Representatives' summer break.
U.S. President George Bush sent the bill to the U.S. Congress four months ago. Although the bill was adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, the differences between the two texts have to be overcome.
When the Congress leaders reach an agreement on the total amount of the package, it is expected to be adopted together with ISAF assistance.
