Gurel: Turkish Foreign Policy Is Already Being Carried Out As A State Policy

ANKARA (A.A) - 15.07.2002 - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sukru Sina Gurel said on Monday, ''Turkish foreign policy has traditional basis. Turkish foreign policy is already being carried out as a state policy.''
Gurel came to the Foreign Affairs Ministry for the first time after he was appointed as foreign minister last week.
Responding a question about the Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP) uneasiness about position of State Minister Kemal Dervis for Economy, Gurel told reporters, ''we have been continuing to work to fulfill responsibilities of the government.''
When asked whether or not a handover ceremony would be held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Gurel said, ''if Mr. Ismail Cem wants, he can inform me on his works at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.''
Responding a question about Iraq, Gurel said, ''we should act with concrete information, not with speculations.''
He said that he would hold talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz.
Gurel added, ''I will go to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to represent Turkey at the ceremonies to mark July 20 Cyprus Peace Operation.''
