BAHCELI: DERVIS SHOULD MAKE HIS PREFERENCE
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli reiterated that he did not find the situation of State Minister for Economy Kemal Dervis as ethical. He said, ''a person who acts as minister, should reveal his personal preference.''
Bahceli said if the figure which the government found support comes to a position that would lead to discussions of vote of confidence, the Prime Minister should make a decision regarding withdrawal from the government.
CEM IS AMBITIOUS: WE WILL COME TO RULING AT THE FIRST ELECTIONS
Ismail Cem said, ''we are a very ambitious formation. We have constituted a good team. I believe that the party we will set up will come to ruling at the first elections.''
Speaking about the criticisms of State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli, Cem said ''inapropriate'', and noted that Dervis was very important for this government.

CRITICAL TUESDAY
The group called as ''Nine parliamentarians'' in the Democratic Left Party (DSP) will make a call for a congress to Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit once more. If they are rejected, they will convene the congress by themselves. The group also called ''gentle opposition'' will make a proposal to Ecevit on Tuesday. They will say: ''let's hold a congress within 15 days. You remain as the leader. Let's choose an influential secretary general and totally renew the administration.'' If Ecevit returns this proposal, the ''nine parliamentarians'' will consider themselves ''free'' and convene a congress with the signatures of at least 20 percent of the delegates. If the Ecevits try to prevent this attempt, resignations from the party will increase.
CILLER: ''ELECTIONS CANNOT BE READY TILL NOVEMBER''
True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller lists her priorities as follows: ''The parliament convenes on July 22 and we take a decision for elections. We have carried out a survey and seen that we cannot be ready for elections till November. Then, we will have some time for European Union (EU) laws and 15-16 adjustment laws can be passed within three or four weeks.
''KEMAL IS UNEASY''
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal responded to State Minister Kemal Dervis: ''The party which will be formed by those who have resigned from the Democratic Left Party (DSP) cannot address 65 million people. Kemal is seeing this.'' Baykal evaluated Dervis' call for a cooperation with CHP: ''our door is also open to them. He sees the situation. A party which will be formed by only those who have resigned from CHP cannot address the society and give a message to the left wing. This party will only satisfy leadership desire of Cem. That's all. It cannot be beyond a fraction.''

''I DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE WEARING HEADSCARF''
Ismail Cem said, ''the biggest three problems that we will solve when we come to the power will be unproductivity, unemployment and inequality.'' Cem clarified the headscarf issue which he will face in election fields during his first step: ''I have not had any problems with our people wearing headscarves and I will never have. Modernism is in the minds.'' Cem said, ''don't forget, I am a deputy from central Kayseri province'' and stressed that he was elected from a conservative region. Cem, who noted that they started with a right message and defined the support of the people as ''perfect'', showed the survey of a web-page as an example: ''56 percent of 14,000 people who joined the survey supported us. 13 percent said that they will decide when they see our program. But, this does not mean that we have achieved everything.''
DERVIS TO LEARN SEZER'S VIEW
State Minister Kemal Dervis, for whom the Motherland Party (ANAP) and the business world press for ''staying in the office'' while for whom the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) presses for ''quitting the office'', will search for the solution at the Presidential Palace. Dervis has asked for an appointment to have a meeting with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer next week.

Deputy Prime Minister and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli said that if resignation from Democratic Left Party (DSP) continued, Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit would determine the destiny of the government. Bahceli said, ''if the support to the government creates a discussion of vote of confidence, the Prime Minister has to evaluate this. It is not right to open a government which loses its support at the parliament to discussion of legitimacy.

TACTIC WARS
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit seeks for a way out against the new formation led by Ismail Cem, Husamettin Ozkan and Kemal Dervis. Ecevit talked with former Interior Minister Saadettin Tantan, and this was interpreted as retalliation to the Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yilmaz who indirectly expended support to Cem-Dervis-Ozkan and who clearly stated that he is positive toward the new formation with respect to their approach toward the EU. Tantan earlier resigned from ANAP.
Ecevit also met Zekeriya Temizel, the former Chairman of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA).
With those meetings, Ecevit seeks for ways to strengthen his party against the resignations which come one after the other.
EUROPE UNEASY OVER GUREL
The political fluctuations led to important consequences also in foreign policy.
Appointment of Sukru Sina Gurel as the Foreign Minister was evaluated differently in domestic and foreign policy. Appointment of Gurel instead of Cem created uneasiness in European Union (EU) circles.
It was reported that Gurel will host a dinner to the ambassadors of the EU countries within next week to overcome the concerns in EU capitals.

IRAN SENDS ''UNQUALIFIED GAS''
The Pipeline Transportation Corp. (BOTAS) realized that Iran had sold natural gas below standards to Turkey since March. Ways for compensation are being searched. If Iran does not compensate this, agreement will be terminated. Iran, which signed an agreement with Turkey for 25 years and which started to sell natural gas to Turkey in December 2001, sold ''unqualified'' gas to Turkey since the very beginning. Iran proposed to give more gas by decreasing the price to compensate this. However, BOTAS has brought termination of the agreement into agenda if the problem is not solved.
HISTORY BURNS IN ORTAKOY
The historical mansion which was being used as Gaziosmanpasa Elementary School in Istanbul was burnt in a fire on Saturday. The building cannot be used from now on. Istanbul Provincial National Education Director Balibey said that they thought that the fire broke out in the heating room of the building.
TOBB'S TOUR TO SPAIN
A delegation of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges in Turkey (TOBB) will go to Spain to attend Spanish-Turkish Business Council meeting and hold contacts with Spanish private sector. The delegation comprised of 250 businessmen, many bureaucrats and representatives of non-governmental organizations will leave for Spain on Sunday. The delegation headed by TOBB Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu will hold contacts in Spain till July 17. TOBB delegation will hold contacts with private institutions and search for support for Turkey's European Union (EU) membership.

CILLER HAS CONDITIONS FOR SUPPORT
Tansu Ciller, the leader of the True Path Party (DYP) which has become the second party after melting of Democratic Left Party (DSP), has demanded Prime Ministry, economy, finance, transportation, energy, foreign ministry and justice ministries in order to support a government which may be formed by Cem-Ozkan-Dervis and Motherland Party (ANAP).
MHP'S REACTION TO DERVIS
Deputy Prime Minister and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli will tell Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit that ''either Dervis will resign or Ecevit dismisses Dervis from office.'' MHP-Dervis argument continues. Bahceli continued on Saturday to criticize Dervis by saying that ''Dervis should prefer either the government or the new formation'' will have a meeting with the Prime Minister tomorrow. Bahceli will tell Ecevit, ''if Dervis does not resign till the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday or you do not dismiss him, as MHP, we will not attend this meeting.''
ALL MONEY USED TO REPAY FOREIGN DEBT
Treasury will repay 114.3 million U.S. dollars in foreign debt next week. The Treasury Undersecretariat will repay 24.8 million U.S. dollars on July 15, 15.7 million U.S. dollars on July 17, 38.6 million U.S. dollars on July 18, and 35.1 million U.S. dollars on July 19.

CEM: I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEM WITH HEADSCARF
Ismail Cem, the leader of the new formation in the left, made a statement in the Parliament on Saturday and gave his first political messages to the conservative sections. Cem said, ''I have never had problems with people wearing headscarf. I am a Parliamentarian from Kayseri.''
Cem said, ''we made a good start. We should evaluate this, however we should be good at working.''
YILMAZ STARTS TO SEEK NEW GOVERNMENT
The Motherland Party (ANAP), who thinks that the coalition government would not work following the resignations in the Democratic Left Party (DSP), started to search for a new government.
ANAP leader Mesut Yilmaz, who talked to Husamettin Ozkan the previous day, called the parliamentarians and asked which government model they would like to prefer.
Almost all the ANAP parliamentarians wanted priority to be given to a government which does not include the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and attributes importance to the European Union (EU).
