Soli And Pompeipolis Ancient Site Excavation Zones To Be Turned Into Archeological Culture Park

MERSIN (A.A) - 13.07.2002 - The excavation zones in Soli and Pompeipolis ancient sites in Mezitli hamlet of southern Mersin province will be turned into archeological culture park.
Mersin University Faculty of Science and Letters Archeology Department lecturer Remzi Yagci who heads the excavations said on Saturday that they aimed to protect the nature of the region and to this end, they would form a archeological culture park.
Yagci noted that three statues, ceramics and goods made of glass dated back to Roman era were unearthed in the excavations and stated that these artifacts were exhibited in Mersin Museum.
A total of two lecturers, four archeologists, one architect, ten students and 31 workers are taking part in the excavations which are being carried out with the support of Culture Ministry, Mersin University and Mezitli Municipality.
The excavations will end at the beginning of August.
