PEOPLE WANT THIS
Ismail Cem and Husamettin Ozkan, who have launched initiatives for a new formation, responded to questions of Muharrem Sarikaya. State Minister Kemal Dervis met with Sedat Ergin, the representative of Hurriyet daily in Ankara. Cem, the leader of the new formation, and its pioneer Husamettin Ozkan responded to questions. Cem said, ''the public helped us launch this initiative together with Ozkan and Dervis. The public designed us. We will prepare the party program and by-laws soon. We altogether wrote the statement I made to the public. Ozkan said, ''I didn't even think of resignation from Democratic Left Party (DSP) during my last meeting with Ecevit. The resignations following mine occured outside my will. That is, the society was waiting for such an action.'' State Minister Kemal Dervis, one of the leading names of the new formation, said, ''I have never demanded or hoped leadership. But, you have to draw a picture of a team for the people. The parties which have similar views have to be hand in hand. We should be hand in hand with the Republican People's Party (CHP). I can join the new formation after I continue to be in the office for some more time.''

ECEVIT INVITES TANTAN FOR ''TEA''
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit invited former Interior Minister Saadettin Tantan to Prime Ministry Residence for ''tea'' and held a surprize meeting with him. Tantan said, ''there is not any proposal. We just had tea with the Prime Minister''. It was claimed that Ecevit had called Zekeriya Temizel for a meeting.

BAHCELI: ''WHAT DERVIS HAS DONE IS NOT ETHICAL''
Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli said that he thought that the continuation of State Minister Kemal Dervis to be in his office although he was in the new formation was not ethical.

YILMAZ: ''FIRST, RELATIONS WITH EU''
Motherland Party (ANAP) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz said, ''relations with the European Union (EU) has prioriority than the elections. We will support every formation which contributes to this.'' Yilmaz praised Dervis: ''he is conducting the economic program without withdrawing from his political project.''

ECEVIT: ''SITUATION IS UNPLEASANT''
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that the situation was unpleasant when he commented on the relationship of State Minister Kemal Dervis with the new formation. Ecevit said that Dervis did not have any relationship with the new formation as he withdrew from resignation. Dervis then said, ''I am supporting the new formation.'' Ecevit evaluated this situation as ''unpleasant'' while Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli said ''it is not ethical.''

KEMAL DERVIS DISCUSSION
Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli, who has declared a war against State Minister Kemal Dervis, said, ''the marginal benefit he can provide is zeroed.'' International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director told Dervis that he had signed the letter of intent and asked if he was remaining in the office. IMF was relieved when Dervis responded in affirmative to this question.

DSP BECOMES THIRD PARTY IN PARLIAMENT AFTER 44 RESIGNATIONS
The Democratic Left Part (DSP) which started the week with 128 deputies now occupies 84 seats at the parliament. DSP Secretary General Hasan Gulay, deputies Esvet Ozdogu and Oguz Aygun resigned from the party. After their resignation, the number of DSP deputies leaving their party reached 44. Thus, DSP was ranked the third in the parliament below the True Path Party (DYP).

TAYYIBE GULEK SURPRIZED
Democratic Left Party (DSP) deputy Tayyibe Gulek, whose name was mentioned among those who thought of resignation from the party, became the State Minister. At the backstages, it is noted that Gulek did not leave the party by becoming a minister. Gulek, aged 34, is the daugther of Kasim Gulek, the former general secretary of Republican People's Party (CHP).

MINISTER TIRED OF AMNESTY QUITTING POLITICS
Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk announced that he would not run his candidacy again. Turk said, ''my political life is ending. I am very tired. But, I am in my office until the elections.''

WOLFOWITZ TO VISIT TURKEY
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz will visit Turkey next week. Wolfowitz will come to Istanbul on July 14 and attend a meeting organized by the Turkey Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV). He will proceed to Afghanistan on the same day. Following his contacts in Kabul, he will come to Ankara and meet with a number of Turkish government officials.
Wolfowitz's visit which was scheduled for an earlier date was postponed since his visit overlapped with U.S. Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld. He is also expected to meet with State Minister Kemal Dervis.
Expanding the International Security Assistance Force's (ISAF) task area is one of the topics he is expected to bring up during his contacts. Sources are saying that Turkey's stance on this was clear and Turkish officials will explain to Wolfowitz that expanding the ISAF's task area was not realistic and feasible.

REACTION FROM FOREIGN MINISTRY TO U.N. RESOLUTION ON CYPRUS
Turkey reacted to the statements of the U.N. Security Council Term President critizing Turkish side in Cyprus question.
Foreign Ministry said during the direct talks process which had started upon TRNC President's Rauf Denktas's initiative, the Turkish Cypriot side had so far adopted constructive position and made sincere contributions to continue the process, stressing that the Turkish side was determined to maintain this attitude.

OUR PRIORITY IS EU, NOT ELECTIONS
The Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yilmaz supported the movement under the leadership of Ismail Cem saying that, ''taking steps for the EU before the elections is an important mission. As the ANAP, we will be positive toward every formation that will contribute to this.''
According to Yilmaz, the EU circles did not find negative the political activity in Ankara.
Speaking about Dervis's staying in office, Yilmaz said, ''it is extremely beneficial.''

GUREL CONCERN IN EU
Brussels welcomed the new formation including Ismail Cem, Husamettin Ozkan, and Kemal Dervis.
Appointment of Sukru Sina Gurel as Foreign Minister and appointment of Tayyibe Gulek as State Minister responsible for Cyprus, who is known to have similar views with Gurel, is interpreted as ''a toughness route will be entered'' on EU issue.

CEM IS LIKE A LEADER
Ismail Cem said, ''we have started to take steps together with Husamettin Ozkan and Kemal Dervis. We will form a party embracing everybody.'' Cem, who explained the reasons for his resignation and his targets, said, ''we are taking steps as a social democratic movement. We have confidence in Turkey.''

TUSIAD: ''HOLD ELECTIONS IMMEDIATELY''
Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) Chairman Tuncay Ozilhan said, ''as businessmen, we hope that the political and economic uncertainty in Turkey will be overcome as soon as possible. A decision of an election should be taken. It will be beneficial if the business world know about the election date and about if it will be held immediately or in November.''

ZAMAN (CONSERVATIVE)

ECEVIT: WE WILL HAVE TO RESIGN IF RESIGNATIONS INCREASE
Prime Mininister Bulent Ecevit said he took some important decisions pertaining to his political life, noting that he had to postpone this idea following the recent political uncertainty.
Ecevit said, ''I have to think again''. Underlining that they would have to step down if the coalition government loses majority of vote of confidence, Ecevit defended that he insisted State Minister for Economy Kemal Dervis to continue his mission.

BAHCELI GETTING ANGRY AGAINST DERVIS' RETURN, AND ACCUSES SEZER
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli accused President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, who intervened in resignation of State Minister for Economy Kemal Dervis, of being included in government scenerio without Ecevit and without the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
Despite the statement of Ecevit that he wanted Dervis to continue his mission, Bahceli said they would disregard Dervis in the cabinet from now on.
