Yilmaz: A.N.A.P. Does Not Think Of Ending Coalition Government

BRUSSELS (A.A) - 11.07.2002 - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz said on Thursday that the Motherland Party (ANAP) did not think of ending the coalition government at the current stage.
Holding a press conference in Brussels, Yilmaz said that the reforms that should be made in Turkey before the EU's Copenhagen Summit were much more important for ANAP than the discussions on the government.
Yilmaz said that he had told Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli that they would seek consensus with the opposition parties on adoption of those reforms by the parliament that would convene in an extraordinary session.
Stressing that there was a government in charge at the moment, Yilmaz said that today's crisis stemmed from the unwillingness within the coalition government to come to an agreement on reforms for adjustment with the EU.
Assuming that early polls might be held in Turkey before December 2002 or in 2003, Yilmaz said that if early elections were held before December 2002, it would mean a referendum for EU.
