Dervis Resigns From His Post

ANKARA (A.A) - 11.07.2002 - State Minister Kemal Dervis for Economy resigned from his post on Thursday.
Dervis sent his letter of resignation to the Prime Ministry Office.
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit had invited Dervis, who was serving as vice president of the World Bank, to hold talks following the economic crisis in February of 2001.
He was appointed as the state minister for economy on March 3, 2001.
Dervis took over the mission from Recep Onal on March 14, 2001.
He has served as the state minister for economy for 17 months.
Dervis graduated from the London School of Economics, one of the most distinguished universities of the world in economy. Later, he earned his master and Ph degrees at the worldwide famous Princeton University.
Dervis served as Ecevi's adviser for economy and international relations between 1973 and 1976.
He worked as academician at the Middle East Technical University (METU), the Hacettepe University, and the Princeton University. He joined the World Bank in 1978 by working at the Research Service.
Dervis was appointed as the chairman of Global Industry Department, Industrial Strategy and Policy in 1982. He remained in the office till 1986. Later in the same year, he was appointed as the chief economist for Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa.
He was appointed as the vice president in charge of Middle East and Northern Africa.
Dervis, 53, wrote two books entitled ''Planning Models in External Trade'' and ''General Balance Models for Development Policy''. Besides his books, his articles were published in many magazines.

Kapalicarsi officials said that Dervis' resignation did not surprise them; therefore, the markets did not reach too much.
