''WHEN I LEAVE THIS DOOR, I WILL BE POLITICIAN''
Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan who resigned from both his post and the Democratic Left Party (DSP) yesterday, told Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit that ''if you want to test my loyalty, let's withdraw together, so you will see whether I am loyal to you or not.'' Ozkan who met with Ecevit before resigning said that ''if you had told me 'let's withdraw together' I would have come with you. You can still do that, until I get out of this room... When I leave this room, everything will finish.'' Ecevit didn't speak much in the meeting. Ozkan told him that ''when I leave this room, my feelings for you will end and I will become a politician.''

EYES ON THESE TWO POLITICIANS
The eyes are on State Minister Kemal Dervis and Foreign Minister Ismail Cem after the chaos in the Democratic Left Party (DSP). If these two officials also resign, the government will face the risk of losing its majority in the parliament. Everybody believes that Dervis and Cem are the backbone of the government. If these two ministers also resign, many others can resign from DSP and the number of DSP deputies in the parliament can decrease to 58.

'NOW, I AM A POLITICIAN''
The Prime Ministry Residence became scene of interesting farewell. State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan met with Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. During the meeting, Ozkan said, ''you told me that there is no room for feelings in politics. Now, I will leave my feelings in this house, and will be a politician as I step outside. Your distrustfulness made me a politician. I wish you health.'' The Ecevits had started a war against Ozkan saying that he did not react to criticisms against themselves. Ozkar resigned from his post and from the Democratic Left Party (DSP).

A NEW POLITICAL PARTY TO BE FORMED
Turkish political life experienced a historic day which started with resignation of Husamettin Ozkan from his post and from the Democratic Left Party (DSP). War of the Ecevits against Ozkan caused a serious shock that also shook the government. After Ozkan's resignation, Culture Minister Istemihan Talay, State Minister Recep Onal, State Minister Mustafa Yilmaz and 18 deputies resigned from their posts and from the DSP. Later, they came together at a dinner. Tamer Kanber said that they would form a new political party. Meanwhile, Ozkan is expected to invite State Minister Kemal Dervis for Economy to join their new political party.

ECEVIT: ''WE WILL BE RUINED''
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit met with Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu. Referring to the statement of State Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli about early elections, Prime Minister Ecevit said, ''everything was very well till May. DIE's figures proved that the programme was running appropriately. However, when I fell ill, a campaign was launched. I damaged the balances in Turkey. Now, the issue of early elections was brought onto agenda. If we hold early elections in September or in November, we will be ruined. Therefore, I am concerned about Bahceli's proposal.''

POPULATION IN TURKEY TO REACH 70 MILLION IN SEPTEMBER
Population in Turkey is expected to reach 70 million at the end of September. Turkey's population which is now (mid-2002) estimated to be 69,741,000 is foreseen to rise to 70,297,000 at the end of 2002.

DERVIS AND OZKAN TO MEET TODAY
State Minister Kemal Dervis called Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan from Samos island ten minutes after his resignation from Democratic Left Party (DSP) and wanted to meet with him. Dervis and Ozkan will come together at lunch today. Meanwhile Foreign Minister Ismail Cem who was on holiday in Gocek, returned to Ankara midnight. A significant part of DSP deputies, non-governmental organizations, business circles and public opinion want Ozkan-Dervis-Cem to direct a new formation and in that respect the meeting between Ozkan and Dervis is important.

ELECTIONS CAN'T BE EXPLOITED FROM NOW ON
Everybody started to tell in Turkey after the developments in politics that ''election economy will be implemented and the things will go worse.'' However, nobody can exploit the sources of Central Bank and public banks which were earlier used as units of distributing money to certain circles to win the elections. The transition to powerful economy programme took important laws to prevent the exploitation of sources during elections. Therefore, neither State Minister Dervis, and IMF nor credit rating institutions seem to have panicked because of probability of elections in Turkey.

HIGH TENSION IN POLITICS
Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan who was accused by DSP of staying silent against campaigns carried out against Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, resigned both from his post and party yesterday. Ozkan said that ''I learnt from Ecevit that there was no need for sentimentality in politics after 11 years.'' Ministers Talay, Onal, Yýlmaz and 18 deputies submitted their resignation by accusing Ecevit.

YILMAZ ALSO CALLS FOR ELECTIONS
Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yýlmaz said that elections should be held as soon as possible as the early elections are on the agenda of the country. Yýlmaz said that it is not important for his party to be in this government anymore, adding that Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan played a significant role in keeping the coalition government for such a long time.

MRS. RAHSAN TAKES REVENGES, WE PAY THE BILL
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's wife Rahsan Ecevit's campaign against Husamettin Ozkan started a process that will destroy the Democratic Left Party (DSP). Her desire to take revenge left Turkey without government de facto. Number of DSP deputies decreased from 128 to 107. The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) became the political party having the highest number of seats at the parliament.

WHAT WILL CEM DO?
Attitude of Foreign Minister Ismail Cem who met with Husamettin Ozkan in Gocek three days ago, is of key importance following the recent political developments. Now, everyone waits for Cem to take a decision about his future in the Democratic Left Party (DSP).

TURKEY TO BE 70 MILLION IN SEPTEMBER
According to the State Statistics Institute (DIE), the population of Turkey will be 70 million at the end of September. The population of Turkey in the middle of the year 2002 will be 69,7 millions. It is estimated that the population of Turkey will reach 78,96 millions in 2010. The population of the country carries importance for Europe as Turkey is expected to join the EU between 2007-2012. The votes of EU countries in European Commission and European Parliament are determined due to their population.

CLINTON COMES TO ISTANBUL
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton arrived in Istanbul last night as the guest of Turkish-American Businessmen Association (TABA-Am-Cham). Clinton will address a conference on Turkey-Europe-U.S. relations On the Way to EU this evening. Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz is also expected to deliver a speech in the conference.

HALICI: ''HOW RIGHTFUL WE HAVE BEEN ABOUT OUR CONCERNS HAS BEEN PROVED''
Democratic Left Party (DSP) Deputy Group Chairman Emrehan Halici said that how rightful they had been about their concerns and doubts had been proved. Following resignations of four ministers and 18 deputies from DSP, Halici, State Minister Sukru Sina Gurel, Forestry Minister Nami Cagan, Environment Minister Fevzi Aytekin, DSP deputy leaders Tayfun Icli and Zeki Sezer, and 50 DSP deputies came together at the DSP headquarters. Following the meeting, Halici told reporters that they had earlier expressed some concerns, doubts and question marks. Halici said, ''how rightful we have been about our concerns and doubts has been proved. Also, we get responses to our questions and doubts one by one.''

YILMAZ: ''WE ARE READY FOR ALL KINDS OF FORMULAS FOR EU''
State Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yilmaz said that they did not have any reservation about continuation of current government. Yilmaz added, ''we are ready to discuss all kinds of government formulas with the condition of fulfilling necessary arrangements for the European Union (EU) full membership process.''
