Cem Assesses Situation By Holding Telephone Conversations At His Residence

ANKARA (A.A) - 09.07.2002 - Foreign Minister Ismail Cem who returned to Ankara from Istanbul overnight after a series of resignations from the Democratic Left Party (DSP), have been assessing the situation at his residence by holding a series of telephone conversations.
Sources told the A.A correspondent on Tuesday that it was still unclear whether Cem would meet with Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit today.
Cem will proceed to Istanbul later in the day to partake in a dinner to be hosted in honor of former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
Earlier, Cem had requested a meeting with Prime Minister Ecevit about visits of European Commission President Romano Prodi and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz.
However, Turkey's agenda has changed suddenly following resignation of State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan from his post and the DSP.
Sources said that Cem was not expected to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Ecevit on Tuesday.
Cem has been assessing the situation at his residence by holding a series of telephone conversations.
He is expected to meet with State Minister Kemal Dervis for Economy before proceeding to Istanbul.
