ANKARA (A.A) - 08.07.2002 - Recep Onal resigned both from State Ministry and Democratic Left Party (DSP) on Monday.
Onal said in his petition letter he sent to Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit that ''I went into politics in 1999 and I tried to fulfil my mission in politics as an honest, transparent deputy and minister. I was sorry to see that our party does not attribute importance to ethical principles based on love, respect, loyalty and tolerance anymore. I believe that the fight within the party which continued in front of media damaged our unity and integrity and the economic and social conditions of the country. I resign from my post and my party due to these reasons.''
Onal was born in Orhangazi in 1942. He graduated from Istanbul Vefa Highschool and stuided Finance at Political Sciences Faculty.
He entered Parliament in the 21st term as Bursa deputy. He served as a consultant at the Treasury Undersecretariat between 1992-1997 and as Acting Chairman at Prime Ministry Capital Market Council between 1997-1999. He also tought at Hacettepe University's Economy and Administrative Sciences Faculty. He worked as an intern at the German Central Bank.
He is married and has two children. He authored three books, six articles and he has many studies.
Onal had replaced Hikmet Ulugbay on July 22, 1999.
