TRNC FOOTBALLER RETURNS BACK
Sabri Selden, a footballer from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) who escaped to the Greek Cypriot side 2,5 months ago, returned back to TRNC with his family last night. Selden told the paper that ''we could not live peacefully in Greek Cypriot side. We understood that our county was more important from money. My decision to go to Greek Cypriot side was a mistake.'' Selden had went to the Greek Cypriot side to play football in Greek Cypriot AEK Larnaka and to get more money.

GUREL ISSUES STATEMENT BECAUSE HE IS AFRAID OF RAHSAN ECEVIT
State Minister Sukru Sina Gurel issued a written statement yesterday regarding the criticisms about Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit after staying silent for two months. The paper says Gurel issued this statement as he was afraid of Rahsan Ecevit, the wife of Bulent Ecevit. Gurel said in his statement that ''certain groups carry out a disrespectful campaign against Democratic Left Party (DSP),'' adding that ''DSP under the leadership of the Ecevits will make this campaign turn out to be nothing.''

HISARCIKLIOGLU SAYS HE ADVISES DERVIS TO GO INTO POLITICS
Rifat Hisarcýklýoglu, the Chairman of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges Union (TOBB) said that the developments within the Democratic Left Party (DSP) were an internal problem of the party and that he believed the party would bring a solution to this problem by itself. About State Minister Kemal Dervis' going into politics, Hisarciklioglu has said everyone who wants to enter politics should be supported. ''I believe that Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has the political experience and knowledge to overcome this troublesome period and I think he will bring a solution,'' Hisarciklioglu said.

FOGG LEAVES TURKEY
EU Commission's Turkey Representative Karen Fogg ended her four years in office and left Turkey yesterday. Speaking at Esenboga Airport, Fogg said that she was very happy for being in Turkey which was a wonderful country. ''I am very sorry as I leave, but Turkey can look after herself without me,'' she said. Fogg said that she expects Turkey to develop, adding that Turkey has a great potential. Fogg added that she hoped to come back to Turkey for holiday.

FAREWELL TO ECEVIT SCENARIO DEVELOPED
A formula is being developed behind the closed doors in Ankara which will solve both the prime ministry problem and the EU crisis. According to the formula ''a government has to be founded which will keep both Ecevit and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) outside. True Path Party (DYP) can be included in the government. Yet who will be the prime minister? Husamettin Ozkan is the first name that comes to minds.'' The people who develop this formula think that both Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz and State Minister Kemal Dervis will accept Ozkan as the prime minister.

OZKAN AND CEM MEET IN GOCEK
Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan and Foreign Minister Ismail Cem met in Gocek where they spent their weekend. This meeting is important as certain groups within the Democratic Left Party (DSP) recently issued a statement criticizing the attitude of Ozkan for not giving reaction to the criticisms against Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit.

OZKAN KEEPS SILENT
Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan who is expected to meet with Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit in the beginning of the week does not want to resign. Ozkan is criticized by DSP for not reacting to the criticisms against Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy group leader Ismail Kose that he wanted Ozkan to join MHP. Kose also noted that if State Minister Kemal Dervis joins the Republican People's Party (CHP), he has to quit from the government.

DERVIS LEAVES FOR SAMOS
State Minister Kemal Dervis who went to Samos island of Greece to attend an international symposium, said that Turkey has to join the European Union (EU). Dervis said that 40 politicians, economists and authors including Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou and World Bank Deputy Governor Mats Karlsson will attend the symposium.

YILMAZ SAYS DSP ACTS UNJUSTLY TO OZKAN
Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz who attended the opening ceremony of ten new hospitals built by the Social Security Institution (SSK) at Istanbul's Conrad Hotel, told journalists that the Democratic Left Party (DSP) acted unjustly to Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan. Yýlmaz stressed that DSP has to protect its internal integrity.

ECEVIT TO ATTEND TV PROGRAMME
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit will attend a tv programme in private tv channel CNN Turk this morning. The recent developments will be taken in the programme. Ecevit will respond many questions about the Cyprus question, the abolishment of death penalty, the internal debates within the Democratic Left Party (DSP) and the harmony within the coalition party.

DENKTAS SAYS TRNC SHOULD NOT FORGET ITS PRIORITIES
Rauf Denktas, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said yesterday that ''we bargain for the state on the negotiation table, we don't want people within TRNC to play tricks on us. Certain groups within the TRNC have forgotten the priorities of the TRNC as they focused on EU membership. Everybody should behave propertly. They should tell clearly whether they defend this state or not.''

CLINTON IN ISTANBUL ON TUESDAY
The U.S. former president Bill Clinton will come to Turkey next week as the guest of Turkish American Businessmen Association. Clinton will address a meeting in which Turkish-American relations will be discussed. The meeting will be held in Cýragan Palace on Tuesday. A total of 500 persons will attend the meeting.

FIRST TOUGH TEST OF ISAF UNDER TURKISH COMMAND
Afghanistan Deputy President Haci Abdulkadir was assasinated in Kabul yesterday. This incident which is a blow to the new Afghan government constitutes a tough test to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) whose commandership Turkey took over last month. Officials worry that the assasination of Abdulkadir who was known for his closeness to Afghan President Hamid Karzai could cause ethnic clashes in the country. ISAF Commander Major General Hilmi Akin Zorlu is expected to deliver a speech regarding the incident following the funeral today.

MORTALITY RATE DROPS IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN TURKEY
Turkey topped the list of the OECD countries who managed to drop down the mortality rate in traffic accidents. OECD recently announced the results of a study that covers 1999 and the first six months of 2000. According to statistics, mortality rate in traffic accidents in Turkey dropped by 21 percent during this period which is the sharpest decrease among OECD countries.
