GAZIANTEP (A.A) - 06.07.2002 - Ahmet Mutafoglu, Chairman of Akteks Acrylic Thread Industry and Trade Corp which made the first Turkish investment in Syria, said that through this investment, he would have easier access to Syrian market and also to Middle Eastern countries.
Mutafoglu told the A.A that the factory would first produce ten tons of thread and then they would increase their production capacity to 20 tons. He indicated that they would manufacture the same thread kinds in Syria that they do in Gaziantep. About 70 percent of the workers of the factory will be Syrian while the remaining 30 percent will be Turks.
''Besides the market factor, many incentives and interest showed by the Syrian government led to my decison to set up a factory in Syria,'' he said.
The factory will use the latest technology used in German, French and Italian factories.
Mutafoglu said that the Syrian economy was growing fast and it would become a leader to all Arab countries in the future. ''I never felt like I was taking any risk when I was making this investment since Syria is fulfilling the requirements of global economy. I hope this investment would also help Turkish-Syrian relations,'' he said.
