ELAZIG (A.A) - 05.07.2002 - A clash erupted between the members of the Hezbollah terrorist organization and security forces in Mustafapasa neighbourhood of eastern Elazýg province early on Friday.
Two policemen died and one terrorist was killed in the clash.
An operation was launched by security forces at 3.30 a.m. in a house in Mustafapasa neighbourhood and Hezbollah member opened fire on police.
Police officers Cihan Karadavut and Mehmet Ali Sahin died in the fire and one terrorist was killed.
Meanwhile Elazýg Security Director Atilla Germiyanlýoglu said that the operation was launched acting on a tip-off. The police were informed that suspicious people entered and exitted from a building in the neighbourhood. Germiyanlýoglu said that police officer Cevdet Yesilay was injured and he was hospitalized.
''The terrorist Huseyin Sarýagac was killed in the operation. Our policemen died as they tried to protect the wife and three children of the terrorist who was in the house. We seized two revolvers and four hand grenades in the house. We also found out that the terrorist was involved in the killing of Diyarbakýr Security Director Ali Gaffar Okkan and five policemen on January 24, 2001,'' he said.
The wife and three children of the terrorist were taken to police station and the operation ended.
