BALIKESIR (A.A.) - 03.07.2002 - Foreign Economic Relations Committee (DEIK) Chairman and Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists Association (TUSIAD) Chairman Rona Yircali said on Wednesday that health problem of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit affected and obstructed economic development.
Speaking at meeting of Balikesir Chamber of Industry, Yircali said there was not a positive atmosphere when economic table is considered.
Yircali said political and economic issues came to a position that failed to constitute a healthy atmosphere which the investors needed, stressing that economy could not be expected to be healthy in atmospheres where there is not any political instability.
Yircali said escalation in borrowing interests continued, noting that stock exchange index decreased around 9,000, and that one U.S. dollars increased more than 1 million 600 thousand.
Yircali said although they earlier pointed out that elections would put the country into difficulty, added that they now could not see any other way out but the elections because of the situation in economy.
