United States Remains Loyal To Ankara Document About E.S.D.P.

WASHINGTON D.C.(A.A) - 02.07.2002 - The United States has been supporting the Ankara Document signed among Turkey, the United States and Britain about the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP) despite efforts to change the document.
Sources told the A.A correspondent on Tuesday that Turkey described some proposals put forward with the initiatives of Greece in order to make changes in the document as unacceptable. Later, the United States has begun to stress that it was supporting the document in every possible occasion.
Ankara Document signed after negotiations among Turkey, the United States and Britain, includes some articles to remove Turkey's concerns about ESDP.
However, Greece accelerated its efforts to make changes in the document during the summit meeting of the European Union (EU) in Seville, Spain.
Diplomatic sources said that the United States wanted a solution to be reached on the issue of EGSP, and remained loyal to the document.
The United States does not welcome efforts to turn the issue of ESDP into a problem between Turkey and Greece, and between Turkey and the EU.
