ANKARA (A.A) - 02.07.2002 - True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller said on Tuesday that the government did not do what was necessary for the European Union (EU), stressing that the government also did not give hope about achievement of those necessary things.
Ciller issued a written statement and said government was the only obstacle in front of the steps which Turkey would take on the way to the EU.
Ciller said, ''the responsibility of failing to take necessary steps on the way to the EU, and missing opportunities belong to all the parties in the government. The government partners should remember their responsibilities and give up blocking the way to the EU.''
Ciller said, ''we are reiterating our historic call. We should keep the parliament open and make cooperation for the EU.''
