Victims Of Incidents In Sivas Commemorated

SIVAS (A.A) - 02.07.2002 - A total of 37 people who were burnt to death in the Madimak Hotel in central province of Sivas on July 2, 1993, were commemorated on Tuesday.
Representatives of non-governmental organizations, and relatives of the victims, gathered in front of the Madimak Hotel by carrying photographs of the victims.
Pir Sultan Abdal Culture Association Secretary General Ibrahim Karakaya said, ''nine years have passed since incidents in Sivas. Non-governmental organizations should unite their powers and get organized. If we can succeed in getting organized, we will never experience another Madimak massacre.''
Later, participants laid carnations in front of the Madimak Hotel.
On July 2, 1993 following the midday prayer at Pasa and Ulucami mosques, nearly 15-16 thousand people marched by chanting slognas. They damaged a statue of Pir Sultan Abdal. Later, they gathered in front of the Madimak Hotel in which writer Aziz Nesin and members of Pir Sultan Abdal Association were staying.
They set the hotel building on fire.
A total of 37 people were burnt to fire in the hotel.
