ANKARA (A.A) - 01.07.2002 - The meeting among the leaders of the ruling political parties ended on Monday.
Prime Minister and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit, Deputy Prime Minister and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli and Deputy Prime Minister and Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yilmaz, and Deputy Prime Minister Husamettin Ozkan attended the meeting held at the Prime Ministry Residence.
LEADERS OF RULING PARTIES RELEASE JOINT STATEMENT AFTER THEIR MEETING
Leaders of the ruling political parties said on Monday that they agreed to hold general elections on the scheduled date and expressed determination about this matter.
A joint statement was released after the meeting of the leaders of the ruling political parties.
The statement said that the leaders of the coalition parties reached a consensus of opinion and expressed determination about holding general elections on the scheduled date, that is, April 2004, and noted, ''everybody should make their plans according to this.''
The government had taken even the most difficult decisions about well-being of the country and betterment of the economy when necessary, the statement pointed out.
The statement said that necessary laws had been taken and the government did not refrain from self-sacrifice for solution of problems of the country.
''For our government, our country's future is beyond every political purpose. Our works will continue with same understanding till the general elections,'' it said.
''The fluctuations observed in markets in recent weeks were not caused by economic factors but they were caused by expectations and uncertainty which were created by effects of some political and economic interests, purposes and intentions and speculations. All institutions and all our citizens should be sensitive in order not to allow replacement of recoveries which have been achieved by great efforts and self-sacrifice of our people, with negativities,'' the statement said.
''Our government will continue implementing the economic programme with determination but without any concession also in the future,'' it said.
The statement said that the Council of Ministers would convene on every Wednesday beginning next week and that the meeting of Higher Planning Board which could not convene in would be held as soon as possible.
The statement said that Turkey's national goal was to be a full member of the EU and added that the government fulfilled most part of short term commitments during the adjustment period to the EU.
The government would rapidly carry out necessary works on completion of the remaining regulations and Parliament would be called to hold an extraordinary meeting after the completion of the those works, the statement noted.
The statement pointed out that the coalition parties would never give permission to the works that could negatively affect the future of the 57th government.
The statement also said that State Minister Fikret Unlu's proposal which foresaw to give medals of merit to the players of National Football Team under the law as Turkish National Team became the third best team in the World Cup finals, had been approved and added that the decision of Council of Ministers on that issue was opened to signature.
