MADE IN TURKEY MOBILIZATION
Osman Benzes, a Turkish businessman said that he was ready to give 100,000 dollars to a campaign namely ''Made In Turkey Mobilization'' which can be started in the world following the success of the Turkish national soccer team in World Cup. Benzes, who is the owner of APS Apparel company said that the success of the national soccer team in the world can be used to solve the image problem of Turkey. ''Let's start 400-500 million dollars of promotion campaign in the world to improve the image of Turkey, I am ready to give 100,000 dollars to it.''
TURKEY SHOULD FACE ITS HISTORY FIRST
Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz said that Europeans firstly faced with their own history while setting up the customs union and the EU, adding that Turkey could not do that. Yýlmaz said that ''Turkey wants to be a western country for 200 years.'' ''However while trying to do that, Turkey started to get debts from other countries,'' Yýlmaz said. Yýlmaz stressed that if Turkey can make the EU take a decision to start full membership negotiations with Turkey in December this year, Turkey can become a member of EU together with Bulgaria and Romania in 2007-2008.

IMF SENDS LETTER OF SUPPORT TO ECEVIT
Horst Koehler, the First Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and boosted his morale. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit received the letter last evening. Koehler said in the letter that ''I thank you for your continuous leadership that made the economic program a success. I'm happy to hear that you're recovering quickly. As you also know Turkey is implementing the economic program with success. IMF Deputy President Anne Krueger also shares my wishes that you soon would regain your health,'' Koehler said in his letter.
ECEVIT:''EU IS A NATIONAL PROBLEM''
Responding to questions of the press members in written form, Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that he still has the hope that a compromise would be reached regarding the EU affairs. Even if the parliament has a summer break, he can call the parliament to an extraordinary meeting if necessary to discuss EU affairs, he said. Ecevit stressed that EU membership of Turkey is a governmental and national problem, adding that as all the political parties want Turkey to become a member of the EU, they have to reach compromise.

TURKS BUY TICKETS FOR FINAL MATCH
Turkish national soccer team will play the semi final in World Cup with Brazil tomorrow. If Turkey wins this match, it will play the final. The players of the national team told the paper that Brazil was not that better than them. ''We will win Brazil and play the final,'' the footballers said. Meanwhile Turks started to buy tickets for Yokohoma where the final match will be played.
SSSB: ''MACRO ECONOMIC STRUCTURE IS ON RIGHT TRACK''
Schroder Salomon Smith Barney (SSSB), a global, full-service financial firm which provides brokerage, investment banking and asset management services to corporations, governments and individuals around the world, said on Monday that the macro economic structure in Turkey was on right track despite the markets' reactions to political developments.In an analysis on Turkish economy, SSSB said that the 35 percent of inflation target and the 3 percent of growth target in 2002 were still feasible targets and that the inflation might decrease even below 35 percent.

ECEVIT'S EU HOPE
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit released a written response to questions of reporters about politics, economy and his health. Avoiding to give clear answers to questions, Ecevit gave ''promising messages'' about economic and political issues. Noting that he wanted to return to his office on his doctors advice, Ecevit said he had full confidence in his doctors. Ecevit said compromise between the coalition government and the opposition on issues like death sentence and broadcast and education in mother tongue became difficult but he was still hopeful. Noting that he could call on the parliament to convene extraordinarily if they reached a compromise, Ecevit said the government did not take decisions about operations in banking sector as autonomous or independent institutions were responsible of those operations.
YILMAZ: ''2008 IS THE TARGET YEAR FOR EU MEMBERSHIP''
Deputy Prime Minister and Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yilmaz warned that Turkey was obliged to go fast enough to join the EU's enlargement schedule. Noting that 2008 should be the target year for EU membership, Yilmaz stressed that the parliament would convene extraordinarily before October. Yilmaz added that KADEK would be most probably included in the EU's list of terrorist organizations.

TURKEY MISSES EU TRAIN
European Union (EU) will take vital decisions regarding enlargement during its summit to be held in Copenhagen. If Turkey completes undertaking the necessary reforms, it will catch the train. However the effort of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) to find a solution to death penalty issue without the support of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) seems to yield no result. EU will start to write down the ''Progress Report'' in September and finish it by October 22. However the parliament will have its summer holiday until October.
BSEC CELEBRATES ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY
The Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) which was formed upon the initiative of Turkey in 1992 is held in Istanbul. The agenda is to deepen the cooperation among BSEC countries. BSEC became an organization in 1998. The meeting will start today by the opening remarks of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

Government partner Motherland Party (ANAP) did not approve the bill prepared by the Democratic Left Party (DSP) on lifting of death sentence. ANAP called for a constitutional amendment which does not permit those who are sentenced to heavy life imprisonment instead of death to benefit from any amnesty.
TURKISH WOMAN EXPECTING TO BE AWARDED FOR SWIMMING ENGLISH CHANNEL
When she was a 22-year-old sports teacher in 1979, Nesrin Olgun crossed the English Channel in 15 hours and 47 minutes by swimming. Olgun had 18 famous opponents but none of them achieved it. Olgun who is still the first Turkish girl swimming across the English Channel has been expecting the state to award her.
