D.S.P. Deputies: D.S.P. Should Be Able To Go On Without Ecevit

ANKARA (A.A) - 25.06.2002 - Nine deputies from the Democratic Left Party (DSP) said on Tuesday that ''The DSP should be able to go on without Ecevit but under the stewardship of the Ecevits both at organizational level, and also in the local administrations and parliamentary levels.''
''We share our belief with the public opinion that the Ecevits will undertake this historic mission and responsibility,'' the deputies said in a news conference.
DSP deputies Ali Arabaci, Uluc Gurkan, Ahmet Arkan, Bayram Firat Dayanikli, Cengiz Gulec, Emin Karaa, Sadik Kirbas, Ertugrul Kumcuoglu, and Tahir Kose held a joint news conference in the parliament.
Reading out the joint declaration, DSP deputy Bayram Firat Dayanikli said that the most powerful political formation which will overcome the problems in the country and which will open the way of Turkey, is DSP, adding that ''there are powerful officials in DSP who will carry out this historic mission and responsibility. DSP is a political movement which was formed by the Ecevits with great sacrifices and which came to power by the efforts of the Ecevits. The DSP should be able to go on without Ecevit but under the stewardship of the Ecevits both at organizational level, and also in the local administrations and parliamentary levels.''
When reporters asked if it was a call for withdrawal, Dayanikli said ''no it is not.''
