Yalcinbayir: Abolishment Of Death Penalty Can Be Regulated By Law

ANKARA (A.A) - 24.06.2002 - AK Party Secretary General Ertugrul Yalcýnbayýr said on Monday that the abolishment of death penalty can be regulated by law, adding that ''if the parliament works, we can sort out this problem.''
Speaking in a news conference in the parliament, Yalcýnbayýr said that other parties didn't extend support to their proposal of constitutional amendment, adding that even the AK Party itself didn't extend sufficent support to it.
Describing the proposal of including the regulation about changing the death abolishment into heavy life imprisonment as ''A Plan,'' Yalcýnbayýr said that ''as the A plan can't be implemented now, the B plan will come to agenda. One of the most important issues in B plan is the proposal the Democratic Left Party (DSP) brought to agenda. This proposal can be accepted. This should also be discussed in the public opinion. Turkey can't break off ties with Europe.''
As their proposal was not accepted, it is time to discuss the proposal of DSP, he said adding that the proposal of DSP is not to pardon Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization or to decrease his puhishment.
