ANKARA (A.A) - 18.06.2002 - The Democratic Left Party (DSP) submitted on Tuesday the bill envisaging death sentence to be commuted to heavy life imprisonment, to the political parties having seats at the parliament. The DSP plans to submit its bill to the parliament till the weekend.
Under the bill comprised of five articles, those who are sentenced to heavy life improsenment on charges of terrorist crimes will spend at least 36 years in prison and their punishment will not be reduced.
Those who are sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of common crimes will serve at least 30 years in prison. The first ten years of their sentence will be served in a cell. Officials will take a decision about whether or not to release those who serve their sentence and who show good conduct.
The DSP will wait for other political parties to explain their views about the bill till Friday. Later, the bill will be given its last shape in line with these views. The DSP plans to submit the bill to the parliament before the weekend.
