ANKARA (A.A) - 17.06.2002 - Prime Ministry Press Center said on Monday that the implementation process of the economic program has come to a turning point in which inflation was reduced and growth re-started. The statement said, ''however entering to a general evaluation of uncertainty in the recent weeks increased fluctuations in the financial indications. Continuation of those fluctuations for long will have a cost to economy.''
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit will meet State Minister Kemal Dervis and economy bureaucrats at 13.30 local time today in his office to evaluate the developments in economy.
The Prime Ministry Press Center issued a written statement pertaining to the economic developments.
The statement said the economic program was carried out successfully and no concessions should be made in the implementation. It said 35 percent inflation, and three percent growth rate targets for 2002 were consistent.
The statement said, ''besides the decrease of the inflation to the lowest levels of the past 20 years, the industry production, rate of capacity utilization, number of work places opened, and increase of positive expectations in public surveys indicate that targets could be realized.''
The statement said positive developments were recorded in exports and tourism, noting that targets of the first five months were reached in public finance. It said the parliament approved necessary decisions envisaged in economic field for June.
The statement said, ''within this framework, Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit will meet State Minister Kemal Dervis at 13.30 local time today.''
Treasury Undersecretary Faik Oztrak, Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) Chairman Engin Akcakoca, and some other officials will also attend the meeting.
