ISTANBUL (A.A) - 15.06.2002 - Justice and Development (AK) Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the coalition parties to change the government or to have an early election soon if ''they really want Turkey to join the EU''.
Speaking at a dinner in Sariyer on Friday night, Erdogan claimed that there was a government vacuum in Turkey. Criticizing the government's investment policies, Erdogan said that the government spent 500 million USD to build airports which don't operate now.
Erdogan said that when he comes to power, his government would prevent corruption, collect taxes from everyone and stop Treasury guarantee over the banks.
''Turkey wants to join the EU but does this government really want that? I don't think so. They are deceiving you. First they signed the National Program and now they are opposing it,'' he said.
Addressing to Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz, Erdogan said ''If you are so sincere about Turkey's joining the EU, you should tell the coalition parties that you don't walk together with them anymore.''
