ROME (A.A) - 13.06.2002 - Turkey wants to actively participate in the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) projects, easing the entrance of Turkish agriculture products into foreign markets.
During the FAO's World Food Summit in Rome, Italy which started on June 10, Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member nations Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan held a meeting.
Agriculture and Rural Affairs Ministry's External Affairs Department Sinan Varol told the A.A correspondent on Thursday that Turkey targeted to undertake active role in FAO projects, facilitating entrance of Turkish agriculture products into foreign markets.
Varol said that a meeting would be held in Pakistani capital Islamabad between July 23-25 on preparation and implementation of thirteen prior projects like enlargement of agricultural mechanism, prevention of desertification, sowing, animal health, irrigation and agricultural mechanization.
Recalling that ECO had prepared 16 projects, Varol said that ECO had asked FAO to finance long term projects.
Noting that Turkey had eight projects for Afghanistan, Varol said that total cost of those projects would be 4-5 million while they requested FAO to give financial assistance for those projects.
