KUASADASI (A.A) - 07.06.2002 - State Minister Sukru Sina Gurel said on Friday that EU regarded Turkey against itself in the issues of Cyprus and Aegean, adding that this attitude of EU causes reluctance in the Greek Cypriot side to find a solution to Cyprus problem.
Speaking in the panel discussion on ''Turkey in Integration Process to EU,'' held in Kusadasý town of western Izmir province, Gurel said that globalization brought dangerous dimensions to ethnic nationalism, however it has positive effects on spreading of technology.
''However, globalization has neither been effective in providing the supremacy of law nor ending the clashes and ideologies,'' Gurel said.
Gurel added that the statements telling that even if the Cyprus issue is not solved, the Greek Cypriot side will become a member of EU encourages the Greek Cypriot side. Gurel commented that the EU makes serious mistakes.
''We try to implement the things covered by the national programme for adoption of acquis. EU, in its part has to announce the time by when it will start negotiations with us. EU target is an important target for Turkey, but it is not everything,'' he said.
