ANKARA (A.A) - 06.06.2002 - The summit meeting on the European Union (EU) will be held at the Presidential Palace with the participation of leaders of political parties represented at the parliament on Friday.
The summit which will be chaired by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will start at 11.00 a.m.
President Sezer had earlier sent invitation to the leaders in which he announced the time of the meeting as 9.30 a.m. As Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit requested a change in the time of the meeting due to his regular morning health examination, the meeting was postponed to 11.00 a.m.
Invitation letters were sent to Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader and Prime Minister Ecevit, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli, Motherland Party (ANAP) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz, True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan.
Whether or not Ecevit will attend the meeting is expected to become clear after Friday's regular morning check-up.
Sezer had said that if Ecevit was unable to attend the meeting, a person nominated by him would attend the summit under the by-laws of the DSP.
The summit is expected to start with the presentation of Secretary General for the EU Volkan Vural.
