ANKARA A.A) - 05.06.2002 - Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said on Wednesday ''I hope that I would be able to attend the summit to be held on June 7 under the chairmanship of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.''
Prime Minister Ecevit responded written questions of journalists through Prime Ministry Spokesman Cem Avci.
Question: How is your health?
Ecevit : My health condition has been improving day by day. My doctors has made a great contribution to my health.
Question: When will you start working again?
Ecevit : I have already been maintaining my works without interruption. I believe that I would be able to attend prime ministry works more actively soon.
Question: Will statements of State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), cause a government crisis? Will the European Union (EU) full membership become a dream for Turkey?
Ecevit : The EU full membership is not a dream, but a target to reach. I believe that any problem would not emerge in the government.
Question: Will you attend the summit on June 7?
Ecevit : I hope that I would be able to attend the summit to be held on June 7 under the chairmanship of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
Question: True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller said earlier, ''if Prime Minister Ecevit does not attend the summit, I will not attend either.'' She also said that she would not attend the summit if the issues of government and prime ministry would not be brought onto agenda. If Ciller brings these issues onto agenda of the summit, what will be your attitude?
Ecevit : President Sezer will, of course, make the necessary statement about Ciller's views.
Question: MHP Chairman Bahceli's statement were considered message for early elections. What do you think?
Ecevit : During yesterday's speech, Bahceli said that elections should not be held till April of 2004.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ecevit refrained from answering a question about his health reports.
