ECEVIT DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit was discharged from Baskent Hospital yesterday after a ten-day medical treatment and he went to his working office in Oran despite the objections of doctors. Doctors had suggested him to stay in Prime Ministry residence. While leaving the hospital, Ecevit told reporters and citizens that he was fine and in full charge. Ecevit said he was feeling better, adding ''the only problems remaining are with my leg and foot.''

GOVERNMENT FOUR YEARS OLD
DSP-MHP-ANAP coalition completed its three years in office today. The government which witnessed two earthquakes, and two economic crises, saved itself from 29 censure motions and investigations motions presented against it. While the coalition parties ANAP and MHP hold meetings to assess the three years in office, Prime Ministry prepares to publish a book about its performance. The coalition government has also been the longest one in Turkey to date.

BAHCELI IN CHINA
Deputy Prime Minister and the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) pays an official visit to China. While visiting the historical Great Wall in China, Bahceli said that it was his dream to see the wall. Bahceli met with Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen yesterday and attended the dinner hosted by Qian in his honor.

EUROPEAN INVESTORS PROMISE TO COME TO TURKEY
The European investors who convened in Istanbul tried to learn the three-year perspective of Turkey from State Minister Kemal Dervis. ''We think of direct investment which will cause employment in Turkey, but you must improve the investment environment first,'' told the members of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT). ERT is composed 47 European companies whose sales is around 950 billion Euros. After meeting with ERT members, State Minister Dervis said that European industrialists were very interested in Turkey.

TURKISH SENATOR BREAKS THE WALL
Belgian senator of Turkish origin Fatma Pehlivan was able to make the Belgian Senate and Belgian Foreign Affairs Commission adopt the bill which will end the cultural embargo on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The bill was prepared upon the proposal of Pehlivan. Therefore for the first time in a EU country, TRNC was included in official documents. The bill which is expected to be adopted by the Belgian parliament as it is, will give the opportunity to TRNC to get support from EU to the festivals it will organize. Pehlivan noted that it was time to focus on political rights.

THERE ARE NO POLITICAL PROBLEMS BETWEEN TURKEY AND CHINA
Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister Devlet Bahceli met with Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen yesterday. Qian said in the meeting that China praises the efforts launched by Bahceli to improve the Chinese-Turkish relations. Qian said that the relations between the two countries entered a new period by the visit of Chinese President Jiang Zemin to Turkey in 2000, adding that the visits of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji to Turkey and the visit of Bahceli to China constituted important turning points in bilateral relations. Qian said that China is pleased with the visit of the Turkish delegation to Xinjiang autonomous region as they will see the realities in the region themselves. Bahceli said in his part that there were historical ties between the Chinese and Turkish people despite the geographical remoteness between the two countries. Bahceli said that both sides have to launch efforts to overcome the trade deficit which is against Turkey. Bahceli stressed that Turkey respected the territorial integrity of China.

SURPRISING DINNER WITH U.S. SENATORS
Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz and State Minister Kemal Dervis had a dinner with U.S. Senators upon the invitation of U.S. Embassy in Ankara. The U.S. Embassy didn't make public the visit of U.S. senators to Turkey. The dinner was also not included in the official programmes of Yýlmaz and Dervis. Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti, Treasury Undersecretary Faik Oztrak and Banking Regulatory and Supervisory Agency (BRSA) Chairman Engin Akcakoca also attended the dinner.

KAHKONEN LISTS CONDITIONS
IMF Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen held a news conference yesterday and listed the three conditions of releasing the 1,1 billion dollars of tranche to Turkey. He said that Banking Regulatory and Supervisory Agency (BRSA) has to send letters to banks requesting them to increase their capital, steps have to be taken for privatization of Turkish Telekom and the Public Procurement Law has to be amended.

SUMMIT DATE IS JUNE 7
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer called the leaders of the parties, the groups of which are in the parliament, to the meeting on June 7 in order to undertake the reforms necessary for the European Union (EU) without delay. President Sezer who was briefed about the EU holds close contacts with Foreign Ministry, prior to the summit which he will held with the party leaders. Sezer will explain the situation of Turkey to the leaders.

FIRST ASSIGNMENT THEN MONEY
International Monetary Fund (IMF) completed the second review of the economic programme. International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen said that some remaining steps should be taken until the IMF Executive Directors Board meeting in order to reach the economic programme's targets. Holding a news conference, Kahkonen said those steps were: ''sending of documents on increase of capital by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency to banks; making the necessary amendments in the Public Procurement Law and taking necessary steps in privatization of Turkish Telekom.'' Treasury said in a statement that the IMF Executive Directors Board is expected to convene and to release the 1,1 billion dollars credit portion in mid-June.

BAHCELI VISITS GREAT WALL OF CHINA
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli visited the Great Wall of China during his second day of visit to China. Bahceli said, ''the Great Wall of China is one of the most magnificent works of art in the world. Chinese people are proud of it. Tourists from all over the world come to the People's Republic of China to visit the Great Wall of China.'' Later, Bahceli was given a briefing at the Turkish Embassy in Beijing. He also met with Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Qian Qichen.

ARSLAN: BBP IS ALTERNATIVE OF SYSTEM
Great Unity Party (BBP) deputy leader Prof. Orhan Arslan said that deputies would join BBP and added, ''our party became the attraction center.'' Arslan said that deputies, former deputies and bureaucrats from provinces and townships would join his party at BBP first extraordinary congress which would be held at this weekend. He also stated that people were participating to BBP from all sides and places of Turkey.

YILMAZ AND DERVIS MEET WITH PEARSON
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and State Minister Kemal Dervis for economy met with the U.S. Ambassador in Ankara Robert Pearson. Three U.S. senators who were in Turkey and high level economy bureaucrats attended the meeting at the U.S. Embassy upon Pearson's invitation. Yilmaz, Dervis and Pearson came together over dinner on Monday. Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) Chairman Engin Akcakoca and Treasury Undersecretary Faik Oztrak also attended the dinner.
