Denktas And Clerides Meet At Bufferzone

LEFKOSA (A.A) - 24.05.2002 - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas and Greek Cypriot administration leader Glafcos Clerides met on Friday at the bufferzone.
When reporters reminded him that Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis had said Turkish side insisted on the issue of sovereignty too much, Denktas said that a side which had proved its sovereignty and founded its state could not be said, ''you are insisted on sovereignty too much.''
Denktas said, ''there cannot be anything like insisting on sovereignty too much. As there cannot be too much insistence on living and freedom, a side which has proved its sovereignty and which has founded its state cannot be said, 'you are insisting too much.' It will be a shame.''
''We founded a sovereign state. Our people used their right to self-determination and founded their state. This is the existing reality. It is not meaningful to say 'insisting too much.' Then, Greece is insisting on its sovereignty too much. Can this be said? Can such a word be said? It is very shameful,'' Denktas added.
