ANKARA (A.A) - 18.05.2002 - Transportation Ministry said on Saturday that they carefully examined every kind of information which it received upon the foreign source news reports pertaining to a possible terrorist attack against Turkey including civil aviation.
The ministry issued a written statement and said the foreign source statements took place in Turkish press together with foreign press-publishing organs.
Stressing that transportation ministry carefully examined all the intelligence it receives, the statement said, ''Turkey, following terrorists attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, reviewed its aviation security, and assessed that security system in Turkey was above the world standards. Turkish aviation officials often convened the officials and jointly evaluated the developments after September 11.
European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) security experts, in April 15-19, 2002, held controls in Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, and the pre-report prepared as a result of controls, said the security measures are international standards.''
The statement said necessary measures have been taken to prevent the aviation and tourism sectors to be negatively effected.
The statement said, ''as a result, the warnings are not only concerned with civil aviation of our country, but valid for all world countries. Our country is in international standards with respect to security of air traffic and airports.
