ISTANBUL (A.A) - 10.05.2002 - Greek Economy Minister Nikos Christodoulakis, who is currently paying a visit to Turkey visited on Friday Fener Greek Patriarchate in Istanbul.
The guest minister Christodoulakis came to the Patriarchate after meeting with Foreign Minister Ismail Cem in the morning.
Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomeous said in the meeting which was firstly open to press that the improvement of economic relations between the two countries will contribute to development of relations between the two countries.
Nikos Christodoulakis said in his part that important steps were taken between the two countries, adding that ''improvement of economic relations will help in both countries' understanding each other well and development of relations.'' The meeting was later closed to press.
After the meeting, the Greek Minister said that he was honoured to visit Turkey and Fener Greek Patriarchate.
Upon a question about Turkey's accession to EU, Christodoulakis said that
''Turkey has made a good choice by its decision of joining the EU. Turkey is also a good choice for EU. Turkey has to fulfil the criteria of joining the EU. Turkish economy goes well and we believe that Turkey is a part of Europe.''
