Author Orhan Pamuk Becomes Guest Of Canadinan Radio

TORONTO (A.A) - 06.05.2002 - Author Orhan Pamuk became on Monday the guest of a programme broadcast on CBC Radio of Canada.
Orhan Pamuk's life and books were the main theme of the programme entitled ''Writers and Company.''
When telling about how he was influenced by Islamic miniature art, Pamuk, who was defined as an ''extraordinary author'' by speaker Eleanor Wachtel, said that he tried to describe Istanbul with a ''sui generis'' style in his book titled ''Black Book.''
Pamuk noted that to this end, he read the Islamic classics and examined them and stated that he was influenced by ''the purity and simplicity'' of Islamic art.
Expressing his views about Islam, Pamuk said that Turkey attributed importance to acquiring a European identity but added that historical values were forgotten when this was being made.
Pamuk said that his relationship with Islamic culture was totally ''in the level of intellectual'' and showed his book entitled ''My Name is Red'' as the best example of this.
In this book, Pamuk noted, magnificent Islamic allegories were made through a secular narration.
