BRUSSELS (A.A) - 02.05.2002 - The EU Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) announced in a written statement on Thursday that terrorist organizations PKK and DHKP-C would be included in the list of the EU's list of terrorist organizations.
The terrorist organizations which are added to the new list will be published in the Official Gazette on Friday.
Some officials stated that the list would not become official before it appears in the Official Gazette while most of the sources are confirming the addition of PKK and DHKP-C to the new list.
COREPER's decision is important for it asks 15 EU member countries to define these two organizations as ''terrorists'' and treat them accordingly. The decision also requires freezing the financial assets of these organizations.
Sources in Brussels also indicated that these organizations cannot avoid being included in the list by changing their names.
It was stated that the Turkish government's determination and Washington's important contributions led to the EU's decision to include these two organizations on the list.
COREPER sources said that they agreed not to give DHKP-C's name to the press beginning of this week since three EU countries were still reluctant and they needed time to get approval from their governments.
Upon the decision, DHKP-C members removed the flag of their organization from their representative office in Brussels.
Terrorist organization PKK had made a number of threats to Turkey, the EU and the United States after COREPER had announced that the PKK would be added to the list beginning of this week. PKK supporters also held demonstrations around the EU buildings.
