Schmidt: Turkey Is A Safe Country For Tourism

IZMIR (A.A) - 02.05.2002 - Rudolf Schmidt, the German Ambassador to Turkey, said on Thursday that Turkey was a safe country for tourism, and added that they hoped more than three million German tourists to spend their holidays in Turkey in 2002.
Schmidt attended a cocktail party hosted in his honor by Ralf Breth, the German Consul General in Izmir.
Speaking at the cocktail party, Schmidt said that important developments had been occurring in economic and cultural relations between Turkey and Germany in recent years.
Recalling that German scientists had been carrying out archaeological excavations together with Turkish scientiests in Bergama and Didim, Schmidt said, ''Turkey is a very beautiful country. It has many natural and cultural assets. I believe that number of German tourists who prefer Turkey to spend their holidays, would increase as a result of traditional friendship between Turkey and Germany. 2 million 85 thousand German tourists came to Turkey last year. I hope that number of German tourists would be more than 3 million this year.''
