ANKARA (A.A) - 30.04.2002 - State Minister Kemal Dervis said on Tuesday that the government's aim is to provide a sound working area for workers to help them be productive and to take thme under guarantee.
Dervis said that the government wishes to retire the personnel who served the state for a long time by giving all their rights and by paying their seniority pays.
Dervis met with the Chairman of Confederation of Turkish Workers' Labour Unions Bayram Meral the same day.
Speaking to reporters with Meral after the meeting, Dervis said that he saw in the meeting that those people who represent the workers see well and think about the future, power and healthy operation of the Turkish economy.
''We all know that unproductivity is the biggest enemy of labour. Productivitiy causes growth, employment and increase in wages. Therefore we wish a productive state, private sector and state economic enterprises,'' he said.
Dervis said that the last 15 months were difficult, thanking workers for the common sense they showed during the economic crisis.
Noting that there are over-personnel in certain institutions and lack of personnel in others, Dervis said that ''we must transfer personnel to the institutions which need it.''
Bayram Meral, the Chairman of Confederation of Turkish Workers' Labour Unions (Turk-Is) said on Tuesday that workers whose time has come to retire, but who are needed in the institution where he/she works won't be retired compulsarily.
Speaking to reporters with State Minister Kemal Dervis after their meeting, Meral said that the meeting was very productive.
Meral stressed that State Minister Dervis gave instruction for paying the bonus of workers in State Railways by May 10.
''We aim to increase productivity in public sector,'' said Meral and he thanked Dervis for being warm to the idea of giving permanent status to 'temporaries' who in fact work for 12 months in many state institutions.
