KOCAELI FORD ELECTED AS BEST FORD OF THE WORLD
Then Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and then Industry Minister Yalim Erez had been exposed to harsh criticisms because of the investment for Ford factory in Kocaeli province.
The factory which was set up in Kocaeli with 750 million U.S. dollars investment, now ranked the first among the 18 Ford factories throughout the world. Ford Otosan targets one billion U.S. dollars exportation next year.
Allocation of Seka area to Ford Otosan had caused serious political difficulties in Turkey.

OECD: TURKEY DOES NOT DESERVE BAD PERFORMANCE IN ECONOMY
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) prepared a comprehensive report about Turkey.
Preparation of the 150-page report lasted for a year. The report is expected to be announced officially in coming days.
The draft report said, ''boosting performance will help meet social welfare targets for the whole population.''
''With the highest population growth rate in the OECD and nearly a third of its population under 15 years old, a stronger future economic performance is not only desirable but essential. Boosting performance will help meet social welfare targets for the whole population. But it will require a sustained and long-term commitment. This performance is disappointing in relation to Turkey's potential. Geographically, its strategic location between Europe, the Middle East and Asia makes Turkey an economic gateway for the region. Turkey also offers a potentially large domestic market, abundant skilled labour, high-quality suppliers and a dynamic entrepreneurial sector,'' said.

SEZER WILL NOT FORGIVE
Reaction increases against amnesty law which will save thousands of criminals including murderers Mehmet Ali Agca and Haluk Kirci. Non-governmental organizations say jurist President Ahmet Necdet Sezer would veto the law which is full of mistakes.
Quick passage of the law from the Parliament created reaction among society. The citizens show reaction to this shameful law.
Representatives of non-governmental organizations gave the message that, ''this law is full of mistakes which hurt public conscience. It decreases confidence in justice. Everybody who call himself humanbeing will oppose to this decision. We are sure that Sezer will veto this law.''

THERE IS HOPE FOR GROWTH
Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti said future outlook of economy gave hope for growth, noting that reduction in interest rates would positively effect growth.
Speaking at the 67th General Assembly meeting of Central Bank, Serdengecti said, ''reductions made in short term interest rates depending on inflation which is in falling tendency will positively effect growth before creating an inflationist effect.''

SEZER ALSO REACTS HARSHLY
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer gave a harsh response to Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan after Gen. Huseyin Kivrikoglu, the Chief of General Staff, and Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. Sezer said statements targeting the Turkish Armed Forces can not be accepted.
Presidential Spokesman and Press Chief Adviser Metin Yalman, speaking at the weekly press briefing at Cankaya Presidential Palace, said, ''as you know, a criminal investigation has been launched against Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan because of a speech he delivered in northern province of Rize in 1992. President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has nothing to say about the issue. Turkish nation is proud of the Turkish Armed Forces. We cannot accept any statement targeting the Turkish Armed Forces.''

TURKEY TO BE EXPORTATION BASE OF VOLVO
Swedish automobile producer Volvo will itself carry out its operations in Turkey. Following the formation of new Volvo in Turkey, changes happened in activities in the field of lorries.
Ulusoy Automotive became the regional agency.
Volvo Deputy Chairman Lennart Jeansson said, ''Turkey will be exporation base of Volvo.''

NO PASSAGE TO FUNDAMENTALISM
National Security Council (NSC) convened under the leadership of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer on Friday. Recent developments in separatist and destructive activities were discussed in the light of the intelligence reports.
The military wing of the council expressed the uneasiness felt over the verbal attacks toward Turkish Armed Forces.
The intelligence reports said fundamentalist terrorist organizations are getting ready to hold new activities using the reactions formed in the region against Israel.

TURKISH AND GREEK JOURNALISTS MEET
Turkish and Greek journalists continue joint works which they launched to consolidate the positive relations recorded between the two countries.
The journalists who convened in Aegean Izmir province, stressed that the politicians created tension to continue their ruling.
The Turkish and Greek journalists also decided to form a web page in internet.

PEOPLE SUFFER FROM UNEMPLOYMENT
A total of 7,500 people applied to a position which Association of Agriculture Chambers opened for seven people. The institution will spend 30 billion TL for the exam. Turkey Association of Agriculture Chambers wanted to recruit two security officials, two drivers, two accountants and a doorman in its structure but 7,500 people applied to that positions.

TURKEY TO RELEASE AGCA WHO WAS IN PRISON ON CHARGES OF ATTEMPTING TO ASSASINATE POPE JOHN PAUL II
Mehmet Ali Agca who had served 19 years ýn prýson on charges of attempting to assasinate Pope John Paul II, and who is now serving his imprisonment sentence in Turkey on charges of killing prominent journalist Abdi Ipekci and robbery. Under the new amnesty law, Agca will once again benefit from the conditional release, and he will be free within two years.

OECD: YOUR PROBLEM IS INSTABILITY
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) prepared a comprehensive report about Turkey and said that Turkey has a very young population and Turkey's important strategical position forming a bridge among Europe, Middle East and Asia make the country economic door of the region, but the performance which Turkey shows is not desirable.

WHERE ARE 50,000 CIVIL SERVANTS?
The World Bank determined 139,000 excess employments in the institutions of Turkey but our economy officials said that the excess is around 40-50 thousand. According to a research which World Bank made, there is 139,000 excess employments in state-owned Economic Enterprises however, Finance Ministry and other institutions said that this number is around 40-50 thousand.

ISRAELI MEDIA IGNORES CEM-PAPANDREOU VISIT
Israel media ignored the contacts which Foreign Minister Ismail Cem and Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou held in Palestine and Israel on Thursday. The news reports about Cem and Papandreou's meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres which were placed in Palestinian newspapers were not involved in any newspapers of Israel. This was found very interesting.

KEMAL DERVIS IS TOP OF LIST FOR YILMAZ
Motherland Party (ANAP) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz began to act to enter the following elections with a brand new group. Yilmaz who wants to include new faces in the public in ANAP side had a list covering State Minister Kemal Dervis, Supreme Court Chairman Sami Selcuk, Ahmet Mete Isikara and Gaziantep Mayor Celal Dogan.
