GALATASARAY ON EUROPE'S AGENDA
Turkish parliamentarians brought the incidents which took place following the match played in Italy between Turkish soccer team Galatasaray and Italian soccer team AS Roma to the agenda of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (COEPA). A question motion was prepared upon the initiative of COEPA Turkish delegation chairman Uluc Gurkan and delegation member Mehmet Telek in order to mention the ignorance of Italian officials against the attacks on Galatasaray players and administrators. Referring to the convention on prevention of violence in stadiums, the motion stressed that the attack was a human rights violation and it called COE to take action on the issue.

KOC: WE ARE READY FOR GLOBAL SUCCESS
Koc Holding Administrative Council Deputy Chairman Mustafa Koc said that the method of overcoming the economic crisis in Turkey is to have a global point of view and to increase the productivity. Koc stressed that his company was ready to have global success.

DERVIS:''ECONOMIC TARGETS WON'T CHANGE''
State Minister Kemal Dervis has said that the participants of the last meeting with IMF agreed that Turkey's three percent growth rate and 35 percent inflation rate were feasible. He stressed that the economic targets won't change. Dervis also indicated that the economic program was prepared in a way that it would not be affected by medium size shocks that could take in the area Turkey is located.

CHHIBBER:''FOREIGN CURRENCY FIGURES BACK TO THE LEVEL BEFORE ECONOMIC CRISIS''
World Bank Turkey Director Ajay Chhibber has said that Turkey managed to form the necessary environment for economic growth but warned that the appreciation in the Turkish Lira might negatively affect export and tourism. Chhibber stated that this year would be a tough year for Turkey but the real economic growth would start in 2003 depending on foreign investments. He maintained that the government's three percent economic growth rate was feasible but at the same time difficult.

TODAY IS APRIL 23
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk had always attributed great importance to the parliament. Ataturk founded the parliament on April 23, 1920 and he didn't close the parliament even on the days when the enemy forces came so close to Ankara. Ataturk also dedicated the national sovereignty day to children. Today we celebrate 82nd anniversary of this great festival.

FRIENDSHIP STARTS BETWEEN DERVIS AND TSOKHATZOPOULOS
Following the close relations between Turkish and Greek Foreign Ministers Ismail Cem and George Papandreou, a friendship has also started between State Minister Kemal Dervis and Greek Minister of Energy and Development Akis Toskhatzopoulos. Dervis went to Salonica last week to attend the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Conference. Dervis also met with Toskhatzopoulos there.
After the meeting, Toskhatzopoulos told his advisers that ''Dervis is a very serious person who knew his subject very well. We must continue to have contact with him.''

SOVIET DOCUMENTS REFUTE GENOCIDE CLAIMS
The documents at the Russian State Archive showed that the Armenian genocide claims didn't coincide with the historical realities. Researcher Mehmet Perincek told the Armenian Studies Turkey Congress that the Soviet Archives confirmed the views of Turkey and it refuted the Armenian claims. Perincek stressed that the documents showed that ''the incidents which took place in Eastern Turkey during the First World War and after the war can't be called as genocide. The fight between Armenian gangs and Turkish state-Muslim people were mutual and both sides used force against each other. It was Western imperialists and Russia which was governed by the Czar who were responsible for the clash between Armenians and Muslim people.''

YILMAZ:''WE ARE AGAINST EXECUTION OF OCALAN''
Motherland Party (ANAP) leader, State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz said that the execution of Abdullah Ocalan, the head terrorist would not bring any use to Turkey. Yilmaz stressed that studies were underway to totally abolish the death sentence.

APRIL 23 AT COAL MINE
Children at Zonguldak's Gelik hamlet are working at coal mines for 3 million TL for eight hours of hard work. The children's families say this is their only choice. Turkey, while inviting children from all over the world to celebrate the Children's Day, children between the ages of 9 and 16 in Zonguldak are working at coal mines hundreds of meters down the earth. Most of these mines are operating illegally. Some 95 percent of Zonguldak's population is obtaining its income from coal mining. Most children who are at school age either quit school or they fail their classes because of poor attendance. People who don't have sons, make their daughters work in these mines.

SEZER:''TURKISH-AUSTRALIAN FRIENDSHIP IS EXEMPLARY''
Australian Governor General Peter Hollingworth came to Turkey to attend the Anzac Day ceremonies which will be held on April 25, Thursday. Speaking at a dinner for the honour of Hollingworth, Sezer said ''I hope Turkish-Australian relations would be taken as an example by nations struggling in chaos and instability.''

DERVIS PRAISES OZAL
State Minister Kemal Dervis who is in charge of economy reminded that the foreign investment policy was implemented successfully during the years between 1986 and 1990 when the ex-president Turgut Ozal was the prime minister. Dervis stressed that while the foreign investment stock in developing countries increased by 40 percent, it increased by 225 percent in Turkey. Responding to questions of deputies about foreign capital, Dervis praised the policies implemented by Ozal.

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN ANKARA
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer welcomed in an official ceremony Australian Governor-General Dr. Peter Hollingworth who came to Turkey to attend the Anzac Day that will be held in Gelibolu (Gallipoli) in Canakkale province on April 25. After meeting tete-a-tete, Sezer and Hollingworth issued statements to the press.

ONE OUT OF TEN CHILDREN WORK IN TURKEY
It was reported that 1 million 635,000 children in Turkey between the ages of 6 to 17 work at various jobs. A research carried out by Turk-Is based on the data of State Statistics Institute (DIE) showed that there were 16 million 88,000 children in Turkey and one million 635,000 of them are involved in some kind of economic activity. This is 10,2 percent of the total children's population. Some 87 percent of these working children receive a daily wage while the remaining 12,8 percent work only for their families.

YILMAZ SAYS HE'S ALSO READY TO BECOME PRIME MINISTER
After Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli announced that he was ready to become a prime minister, Motherland Party (ANAP) leader Mesut Yilmaz also said ''All party leaders should be ready to serve as a prime minister. Otherwise, why would he practice politics? I'm also ready to become a prime minister.''
