ANKARA (A.A) - 23.04.2002 - Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi visited Ataturk's Mausoleum upon April 23, National Sovereignty and Children's Festival and laid wreath to the Mausoleum.
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, State Ministers and Deputy Prime Ministers Devlet Bahceli, Mesut Yilmaz and Husamettin Ozkan, many ministers, deputy parliament speakers, True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller, AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan and deputies were in the official delegation which went to Mausoleum.
Signing the Special Book in the Mausoleum, Izgi noted that the Turkish nation which has its sovereignty abides by Ataturk's principles and reforms.
NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATED IN TRNC
The first ceremony was held at Ataturk Monument and the second ceremony was held at Lefkosa Ataturk Stadium.
TRNC Acting President and Parliament Speaker Vehbi Zeki Serter, Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu, Turkish Ambassador to TRNC Hayati Guven, Commander of Turkish Cypriot Peace Keeping Forces Gen. Ahmet Ozteker, other civilian and military officials, citizens and students attended the ceremony in Ataturk Stadium.
Addressing the ceremony, TRNC National and Culture Minister Ilkay Kamil said that Turkish Cypriots fought for its independence in July 1974 like the Turkish nation fought for its independence under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1920s. ''Turkish Cypriot children should know the importance of freedom and should not give concessions from their independence and freedom,'' he said.
Later students including foreign students coming from 11 countries paraded in the stadium. Children ended the ceremony by opening a banner written ''We Want A Peaceful World'' on it.
