CHICAGO (A.A) - 23.04.2002 - American citizens of Jewish origin are very interested in the documentary film ''Desperate Hours'' which shows the role Turkey played in saving the Jewish people living in Europe from genocide during the Second World War.
The documentary film which is shown in Wilmet neighbourhood of Chicago where many Jewish origin people live, was applauded for a long time by those who watched it.
Turkish Consul General in Chicago Yavuz Aktas, Israeli Consul General Moche Ram and Anti-Defamation League's Deputy Chairman Joel Sprayregan who addressed the guests before the documentary film was shown, talked about the humanitarian efforts shown by Turkey to help Jewish people during their difficult days.
The Turks in Chicago said the documentary film ''Desperate Hours'' which shows the solidarity between Turkey and Israel should also be shown to American parliamentarians in return to the efforts launched by the Armenian lobby to take the Jews to their side.
The documentary film explains how Turkey embraced Jewish immigrants during the Second World War and how Jews living in France, Rhodes and Bulgaria escaped to Turkey and then to Palestine with the diplomatic passports given to them by Turkish diplomats.
