NEW YORK (A.A) - 22.04.2002 - April 23 Children's Day celebrations started in New York's Central Park on Monday.
The festival organized by Turkish American Associations Federation (TADF), took place at East Meadow field, where 99th Streeet and 5th Avenue intersect. The Istanbul Orchestra conducted by Atilla Engin also performed at the festival.
Students from Ataturk Elementary School performed folkloric dances drawing attention of tourists in Central Bank.
TADF Chairman Egemen Bagis said that Turkey was the only country which has a Children's Day and added ''We, as the Turks who live in the United States, are happy to share this day with other people living in the capital of the world, New York.''
Turkish Students Community and Turkish American Women's Association read out a declaration stressing Ataturk's phrase, ''Peace at Home, Peace in the World''. The participants of the festival wore badges that said ''peace''.
