Sezer Sends A Message To Armenian Studies Turkey Congress

ANKARA (A.A) - 20.04.2002 - Armenian Studies Turkey Congress organized by Institute for Armenian Studies started in Ankara on Saturday.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer sent a message to Armenian Studies Turkey Congress at the National Library.
In his message, President Sezer noted, ''Turkey has become the target of a certain campaign in recent years. Some sorrowful incidents during the World War I were distorted in order to blacken Turkey and Turkish people with the crime of so-called genocide.''
President Sezer said, ''some foreign parliamentarians who are not aware of historical facts, have been trying to force their parliaments to take some unreal decisions for their own purposes. Sometimes, they succeed in their efforts. However, it should be known that such political games cannot reach their targets.''
''The best response to these unacceptable allegations of genocide against Turkey will be given by scientific works of academicians and historians. Our archives have been kept open to researchers who carry out scientific studies on the issue. I call on all scientists to benefit from these archives,'' he added.
State Minister Sukru Sina Gurel, Eurasia Strategical Studies Center Chairman Prof. Dr. Umit Ozdag, Armenian Studies Institute Chairman Omer E. Lutem and a number of scientists are attending the congress.
