WASHINGTON (A.A) - 16.04.2002 - Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (ATAA) held a farewell reception on Monday night for Mehmet Ali Bayar, who resigned from his post as the Undersecretary and Spokesman of Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. a short time ago.
Turkish Ambassador to the U.S. Faruk Logoglu, embassy personnel and representatives of Turkish-American society attended the reception held in ATAA centre.
Logoglu said in the reception that more than half of the population in Turkey is younger than 21, adding young persons' starting to deal with politics is very pleasing. Logoglu said that the position of Bayar in the embassy was important and he would miss Bayar very much. Logoglu also thanked Bayar for his contributions to the Foreign Ministry.
Bayar said in his part that foreign politics is very important for Turkey, adding ''yet diplomats who serve the country are not appreciated very much.''
Bayar is expected to run for candidacy at Democratic Turkey Party (DTP) congress to be held on May 18 to be the leader of the party.
