NEW YORK (A.A) - 15.04.2002 - Nazim Hikmet whose works were translated into 52 languages was commemorated with a meeting which was held for the first time in New York on Sunday night on the occasion of 100th anniversary of his birthday.
Actor Genco Erkal, composer Ilhan Mimaroglu, composer and writer Zulfu Livaneli, American journalist Stephen Kinzer, Zeynep Oral, Can Dundar and Prof. Mutlu Konuk attended the meeting in Kaye Playhouse theather, New York.
Poems were read and a song which was composed by Ilhan Mimaroglu for Nazim Hikmet was sung during the programme.
Livaneli also sang his songs for Nazim Hikmet.
Prof. Konuk delivered a speech on Hikmet's use of language.
Nazim Hikmet documentary which was produced by Can Dundar will also be shown at Anthology Film Archives hall on April 17.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) had announced 2002 as Nazim Hikmet year.
