ERBAKAN'S SIGNATURE UNDER JIHAD DECLARATION OF FUNDAMENTALIST ORGANIZATIONS
Necmettin Erbakan, the former leader of the banned Welfare Party (RP), signed the declaration of radical Islamic organizations like HAMAS, Hizbollah and Muslim Brotherhood in which these organizations called for Jihad. The Associated Press (AP) transmitted the declaration which accused the Arabs of betraying the Palestinians. AP reported that the declaration was signed by the leader of Lebanese Hizbollah movement, founder of the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas, the leader of Egypt's outlawed Muslim Brotherhood and a leader of the Islamic group in Turkey. After searching who the Turkish person who signed the declaration of the organizations some of which are considered as ''terrorist'' by the United States, it was revealed that Erbakan signed the declaration.

A NEW ERA WITH YUGOSLAVIA
Yugoslavian Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic, who will come to Turkey for an official visit today, said that they wanted to start a new era with Turkey. Svilanovic is coming to Turkey with new propasals to shape up the relations with Turkey, which were interrupted for ten years.

MAP SCANDAL
State Minister Ramazan Mirzaoglu sent back the European Union (EU) delegation which came with a Turkey map divided into three parts as Kurdistan, Armenia, and Pontus. The French delegation which came to the Maritime Undersecretariat for adjustment to the EU created a map scandal. State Minister Ramazan Mirzaoglu, who was very angry at the map which divided Turkey into three parts, said, ''this does not suit friendship'' and sent away the delegation.

BAHCELI: ''WE FACED A POLITICAL GAME''
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli was uneasy about some of his deputies who voted in favour of the motion related with National Education Minister Metin Bostancioglu despite his instructions and said, ''we are deceived by the opposition.'' Bahceli noted, ''it is obvious that the opposition is displaying a political intrigue. Why do the ruling parties are deceived by this intrigue? They harmed the control mechanism of the parliament.''

''STATE HAS NOT TIGHTENED BELTS AS MUCH AS WE HAVE DONE''
Koc Holding President Rahmi Koc said that none of the private companies had the power to make serious statement and went on saying, ''we have tightened our belts but the public sector has not tightened its belts as much as we have done. The state is still losing money. Privatization initiatives should be put to implementation rapidly. We have to get rid of the State Economic Enterprises (SEEs) which mark losses by giving extra money for their sale like Eastern Germany had done if necessary.''

ULKER DOES NOT GO
And, Ulkerspor basketball team decided not to go to Israel. Ulkerspor had received a negative response from the Union of European Basketball Leagues (ULEB), from which it had requested to change the place of its match with Maccabi Tel Aviv team to be played in Israel. Then, Ulkerspor decided to go to Israel for one day. But, in the end, it decided not to go to Israel. Under general rules, Ulkerspor will be the defeated part if it does not play the match. According to a report to be prepared after the match, Ulkerspor can face punishment.

IT HASN'T SUITED THE REPUBLIC
National Education Minister Metin Bostancioglu harshly reacted to the decision of the parliament which decided to set up a investigation commission about him due to the headscarf ban in the religious high schools and appointments at the ministry. Speaking to Sabah, Bostancioglu said, ''such an attitude against principles of secular and democratic republic should not have been assumed by the parliament. This decision has not suited the parliament of this republic. I do not want to be tried this way. I will not resign but I will continue to walk in the same path in a serious way.''

CEM CALLS ARMENIA TO DIALOGUE
Foreign Minister Ismail Cem called on Armenia to have dialogue. Cem who reiterated his invitation to come together with his Armenian and Azerbaijani colleagues to discuss the disagreements in Caucasus, said, ''the peace which will be provided in the region is for our benefits.''

REAL GOAL IS SECULAR EDUCATION
National Education Minister Metin Bostancioglu explained the reason of the parliamentary investigation which was launched against him: The real goal is secular education. Bostancioglu said that he would not resign and added that he would carry out his works more intensively.

As the Luxurious Consumption Tax takes effect on July 1, 2002, the Value Added Tax (VAT) in entrance prices of casinos, bars and discos will be reduced by 8 points.

SPRING WEATHER ON THE WAY
Meteorology officials announced that the cold weather would end. The temperatures will increase between six to eight degrees Celcius until the weekend starting from the south and west regions.

EP DELEGATION FOR HADEP
European Parliament (EP) will send a delegation to Turkey to examine the developments in the closure case of the People's Democracy Party (HADEP). The parliamentary delegation comprised of nine people and headed by Dutch parliamentarian Joos Lagendijk will visit eastern Bingol and southeastern Diyarbakir provinces and Istanbul between April 7 and 9. The delegation will later prepare a report to be presented to the EP. EP had earlier adopted a recommendary resolution covering expressions that the closure of HADEP would have a negative impact on Turkey-European union (EU) relations.

MKE EXPLODES
Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE) which had earlier modernized M48 tanks successfully and which could not take the mission to modernise 170 M60 tanks is having difficult days currently. Turkey has given the modernization tender to Israel. MKE officials who are in a difficult situation want to take a mission within the pre-tender which was made with an Israeli firm. If MKE takes the mission in tender, Turkey will gain 400 or 500 million U.S. dollars.

YILMAZ CRITICIZES ECEVIT
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz criticized indirectly Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's ''genocide'' description towards Israel. Yilmaz, wha stated that Turkey should not act suddenly and carelessly, said, ''if Turkey wants to continue its sound relations with the two countries, it should refrain from the imprudent reactions.''

DSP NEEDS CHP IN EUROPE
Democratic Left Party (DSP) needs the aid of Republican People's Party (CHP) for a solution of a problem which DSP encountered at the European Parliament. CHP's approval is necessary for DSP Adana deputy Ali Tekin who represents Turkey in European Convention to be a member of Socialist Group in the European Parliament.

BREKK SAYS THEY ARE HOPEFUL ABOUT THREE PERCENT GROWTH
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Turkey Representative Odd Per Brekk said that they were hopeful about the applicability of the 3 percent growth target foreseen for the end of this year. Speaking at a panel discussion held in Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Brekk said that a higher sustainable growth than the current growth rate would be beneficial for all Turkish people, particularly the poor people. Following the meeting, Brekk told A.A correspondent that the IMF Executive Board meeting was planned to be held on April 15. There was not any obstacle before the approval of the loan tranche to be released for Turkey, Brekk said. Brekk noted that Turkey had done all its obligations and added that there were not any problems about the release of 1.1 billion U.S. dollars loan tranche.
