ANKARA (A.A) - 09.04.2002 - State Minister Kemal Dervis said on Tuesday that those who acted speculatively in currency might get hurt.
Meeting with members of the Association of Young Businessmen of Turkey (TUGIAD) in breakfast at Sheraton Hotel in Ankara, Dervis warned those who acted speculatively in the currency, adding, ''otherwise, they may get hurt.''
Following the meeting, Dervis did not answer questions of reporters.
Sources said that Dervis had stressed during the meeting that companies which dealt with production in foreign trade and real sector but did not have any business with the currency were trying to obtain extra income by taking position over the currency, which was very risky.
Addressing those who acted speculatively in the currency, Dervis said, ''if you want be in risk, you can act in a way whatever you want. However, you may get hurt. If you ask me, I don't recommend it.''
When asked how TUGIAD members could find financing source, Dervis said that state banks would start to enter the system within 2-3 weeks while private banks would start to enter the system within 2-3 months.
Responding another question, Dervis said that the national income per capita had reduced to 2,600 U.S. dollars due to the currency.
Stressing that such a high inflation was only in Turkey in the world, Dervis said that the 20 percent inflation tarfet could be achieved if this year's 35 percent inflation tarfet and 3 percent growth rate target were reached.
