Bahceli: Key To Stability In Middle East Is Peace Process

ANKARA (A.A) - 09.04.2002 - Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader, State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli said on Tuesday that the key to stability in the Middle East was peace process.
Speaking at the MHP Parliamentary Group meeting, Bahceli said, ''the current point that the Israeli-Palestinian case has reached makes it impossible to accept the humanity drama in the region and includes dangers that can remove the possibility of solution based on common sense.''
Bahceli said that it became an obligation for Israel to end military operation and withdraw from Palestinian cities.
Noting that a ceasefire which had a meaning regarding the basis of negotiation should be decleared, Bahceli asserted that every continuing minute of military operation destroyed hopes about the region.
''There is a need to learn this historical process in detail and deeply comprehend the realities in the region with every dimension. Structure of the problem, its political results, international strategy and its effects on international affairs should be taken into consideration. Consequently, the problem is beyond heroism and it necessitates state seriousness,'' he said.
''It is very interesting that the new situation emerged in 1990s failed to bring lasting peace. We call on everybody to think within framework of historical, political and international facts,'' he said.
Stressing that the peace talks in the region couldn't be utilized and the process was destroyed with wrong steps, Bahceli said, ''so a new wrong step will totally destroy the chance of the Middle East to protect its existence and its will to co-exist. This vital fact should be perceived by all actors of the region. This is an emergency call and it should be listened. This call should be considered a reflection of the consistent and thorough policy that the republic of Turkey has followed so far.''
''The key to the stability in the region is the peace process. The main reason for the process's failure in creating a meaningful basis so far is that the countries in the region and other countries have not bring gorward a realistic point of view in line with the Middle East's political, historical and social structure,'' Bahceli said.
