Turkey Has Suffered More Than 80 Billion Dollars Loss Due To Embargo Imposed On Iraq

GAZIANTEP (A.A) - 09.04.2002 - Gaziantep Chambar of Commerce (GTO) Chairman Mehmet Aslan said on Tuesday that Turkey had so far suffered more than 80 billion U.S. dollars loss with the alternative cost account due to the embargo imposed on Iraq under the U.N. decision.
Speaking to the A.A correspondent, Aslan said that Turkey and Iraq had good friendly and neighborly relations which had root deep in history, adding, ''the great trade potential between the two countries does not display a vision in parallel to their neighborly and friendly ties due to the embargo.''
''It is mentioned that Turkey suffered 40-45 billion U.S. dollars economic loss due to the embargo. However, with the alternative cost account, the loss has exceeded 80 billion U.S. dollars. Turkey has suffered serious economic and social losses,'' he said.
