BURSA (A.A) - 09.04.2002 - Two suspects who were captured in Istanbul and brought to northwestern Bursa province for being the members of the Union of Imams which provides logistic support to Al-Qaeda terrorist organization, got military and political training in Afghanistan and tried to find passports and members to the organization in Turkey.
Issuing a written statement on the issue, Bursa Security Directorate recalled that Osman Ozkan and Mehmet Aslan were captured and they were arrested by the court following their interrogation.
As a result of the information these two persons gave to the police, two other members of the organization were captured in Istanbul and brought to Bursa.
''Both suspects went to Pakistan and Afghanistan via Iran and they got military and political training in camps of Al-Qaeda in varios regions of Afghanistan. They later left Afghanistan and entered Turkey following the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11. They tried to recruit members and provide passports to the organization during their stay in Istanbul,'' said Bursa Security Directorate.
Another member of the organization was captured in Istanbul and brought to Bursa last night.
